The AACU Story Since 1955
Air Academy Credit Union was chartered in 1955 to serve the Air Force Academy community, growing into a member-owned institution across Colorado Springs.
We're Here For You
We show up every day for people like you who make our community such a great place to be. We want to help you move ahead. Because we believe everyone deserves personal banking (we even made it our tagline) we’re focused on designing and offering products that work for you. That’s because we’re more than a full-service financial institution, we’re a community dedicated to your needs today and fierce advocates for your future goals.
Throughout our history (chartered in 1955), we’ve always been looking towards what’s ahead, and cheering on our members. We serve everyone from local businesses to first responders, healthcare professionals, students, and educators, as well as all active and retired military service members and their families. We’ve expanded well beyond the original charter from our early days at Lowry Air Force Base. Today, there are many ways to become part of AACU. We love welcoming new members. Join us!
We want you! Becoming a member is easier than you think. We serve all active and retired military service members and their families. We also serve employees, students, and families of 15 school districts, hundreds of local businesses (also called Select Employee Groups) and their family members, and more.

Our Story - AACU Our Story FAQs
Our mission centers on doing what's right for members rather than what's easiest, treating the credit union as a community partner rather than a distant financial institution. This shows up in product design and local decision-making alike. Review About Us for more on our structure and values.
AACU supports the community through the AAFCU Foundation, scholarship programs for students, and financial education classes offered free to the public. Employees also volunteer directly at local events throughout the year. Review Scholarships & Awards for AACU education-focused giving.
The credit union philosophy of people helping people reflects AACU not-for-profit, member-owned structure, where profits return to members rather than outside shareholders. Local decision-making keeps that philosophy practical rather than just a slogan. Check your eligibility and become part of that structure.
AACU original 1955 charter served cadets, officers, and civilians tied to the Air Force Academy at Lowry Air Force Base, before the Academy itself relocated to Colorado Springs. That military heritage remains part of AACU identity even as membership has broadened. Review About Us for AACU full membership scope today.
