IOLTA Trust - AACU IOLTA Trust FAQs

An IOLTA account, or Interest on Lawyers Trust Account, holds client funds in compliance with Rule 1.15 of the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct. Earned interest remits to programs like Colorado Legal Services rather than the account holder. Check your eligibility before opening an IOLTA account.

Attorneys and law firms holding client funds in Colorado are generally required to maintain an IOLTA account under state bar rules. An IOLTA account is built specifically to meet that compliance standard. Review Business Checking if you also need a firm operating account.

Interest earned on an AACU IOLTA account is swept monthly and remitted to programs like the Colorado Legal Services Program Grant rather than paid to the account owner. No dividends go to the attorney or authorized user directly. Check your eligibility before setting up your account.
Yes solo practitioners qualify for an AACU IOLTA account the same way larger firms do, with no minimum deposit required to open. Membership requirements still apply to the account holder. Review Business Services for additional tools solo firms often use.
AACU requires standard business documentation for an IOLTA account, plus verification of your attorney or firm status under Colorado bar rules. Call an IOLTA Trust Account Specialist to confirm your specific requirements. Check your eligibility before starting your application.
Disclosures

1 Annual Percentage Yield (APY) effective 10/16/2026. Accurate as of the last dividend declaration date.

Terms and Conditions Subject to Change without notice. Rates may change after account is opened. Please refer to Account Agreements and Disclosures for more information. Account and membership requirements apply. Overdraft fees may reduce earnings.
